Dear Thomas Meyer,
Thank you for the kind words, as well as the inspiring book. I too have
come to believe that 9/11 poses a profound spiritual challenge, and I
was very impressed by your lucid approach to this difficult and
critically important topic.
Taking up where your book leaves off...it seems to me that those who sow
conflict to reap a harvest of power are fighting against a tide that is
running toward unity. Jung's suggestion that 1950s UFOs were round,
mandala-like symbols of humanity's longing for unity, in the teeth of
the schisms of the Cold War and the World Wars that preceded it, may or
may not be correct in its analysis of UFOs, but it accurately describes
our spiritual-political predicament.
By attacking Islam, the traditional of primordial unity, these forces of
schism and conflict have set themselves an impossible task. Nazism and
Communism were ephemeral evils, while Islam is a perennial good. I do
not believe that Disney's empire will ever succeed in turning Mecca into
an "Islam World" theme park with Mickey Mouse ears atop the ka'aba.
